HOW I WORK

My Clients are dreamers...

They have a strong sense of wanting to be more, to do more, but can’t stop getting in their own way.  They have high expectations of themselves, but often feel like they’re falling short.  They possess a deep desire to grow beyond personal challenges because they desperately want to feel more connected to themself and the world around them.  Many of them are navigating life transitions that cause them to question their identity and/or their place in the world.

My Approach

“PAIN IS INEVITABLE, BUT SUFFERing is optional.”  ~Haruki Murakami

It’s hard to face the messiest parts of ourselves.  We tend to avoid this at every cost, often with behaviors and habits that keep us distracted and numb.  But therapy is about waking up.  It’s about committing to the work of undoing old patterns that no longer serve us so we can show up more fully in our lives.

My approach is rooted in a relational, humanistic framework, which means I view therapy as a collaboration.  I challenge the conventional, medical model which views therapists as experts and clients as patients with a disorder that needs to be “treated."  I take a more holistic view because I want to understand you as a whole person.  As an integrative practitioner I often incorporate yoga, mindfulness, and meditation as I believe that movement, breath, and focused attention have the potential to deepen our capacity for self-healing.

My Orientation

THERAPY ISN'T ONE SIZE FITS ALL.
I OFTEN incorporate the following orientations, but lets get creative and find what works for you:

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy:
Focuses on helping you be more present so you can take action toward things that matter in your life.

Compassion Focused Therapy:
Helps those struggling with high levels of self-criticism cultivate a more compassionate view of themself.

Narrative Therapy:
A process of re-authoring our stories, reframing negative narratives into more empowering ones.

Feminist/ Systems Focused Therapy:
Explores how systems including diet culture, capitalism, & patriarchy impact our mental health.

EMDR Therapy:
A treatment designed to alleviate distress associated with traumatic memories.
